Christians living in the Holy Land have been caught up in the deepening crisis which has engulfed the region. The war has resulted in a humanitarian catastrophe, which has plunged the Christian community into poverty.
In East Jerusalem, there has been a total loss of income for Christian families whose livelihood mainly depended from the presence of pilgrims, that is religious tourism. In Bethlehem, the streets are silent and shops are shuttered. Rony Tabash, whose family has lived in Bethlehem for generations said the current conflict is crippling the Christian community. “There are no pilgrims – everything is empty. There’s no one,” he said.
Many Christian families can no longer afford to pay rent, bills and to support themselves. Their plight is desperate as they risk eviction and becoming homeless.
The Patriarchate of Jerusalem has asked ACN for urgent help to provide life-saving assistance with rent, bills and upkeep for these families in need. Your kind Gift of Faith will be a lifeline for these Christians in the Holy Land who desperately need it.
