A security fence to keep Sisters safe, in a dangerous area

The Dominican missionary Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena live and work in Katsina State, Northern Nigeria. This is the most crisis-prone and dangerous region to be a Christian in Nigeria. These Sisters have become a Christian presence in this Muslim-dominated area, carrying out the most needed work of evangelisation at grass-root level through apostolates in education, healthcare and social work.

In recent years, various conflicts have escalated, especially in northern Nigeria, and the area where the Sisters’ convent is situated is not spared. The Sisters told us that recently, reports of bandits abducting people from their homes and places of work are on the rise. The security threats have made the Dominican Sisters realise the urgent need to raise a wire fence around the convent to deter bandits and attackers.

There has been a massive displacement of people from their homes, they can no longer freely go to their farms which is the major source of their livelihood, while the places of worship are also deserted. Life has been so difficult for many. There has been an increase of burglaries, banditry, kidnappings and so on. Therefore, we are soliciting for support to fortify the fencing of our community as we continue to pray for God’s protection over us all,” the local Sister Superior writes to ACN.

The Sisters urgently need a security fence to protect them. With €100, you can help the Sisters to strengthen their security measures so they can concentrate on their important mission.

Your Gift of Faith given with love will make a huge difference in the lives of brothers and sisters in need this Lent.
